Executive Director
Andre Duttmann is the Founder and Executive Director of the Linux Association of Canada, where he serves as the executive lead for the Association’s national mission to foster and advance the adoption and use of Linux, open source software, digital literacy, and collaboration in innovation throughout Canada.
As a self-trained, accomplished, technologist who has been working with a diverse set of tools and technologies in a practical, hands-on capacity for decades, Andre’s broad technical knowledge base spans: software development; web development; systems administration; digital media/communications. Over the years, Andre has utilized and gained significant expertise in various languages and platforms including: Turbo Pascal; C++; Python; HTML; CSS; JavaScript; and, AJAX, amongst other specialized skills.
Andre single-handedly created and designed the website for the Linux Association of Canada; built as a contemporary, responsive, and bilingual-language digital hub that reflects and showcases the organization’s learning resources, content and publications; members initiatives and outreach; national program(s); and; membership options and value proposition. Under Andre’s direction, the LACA organization has evolved into a nationally respected and functioning operation that endeavors to ensure that Canada becomes an increasingly effective hub for development within the global open source software economy.
Passionate about enabling easier, more transparent, and more socially responsible access to technology, Andre is very active in advocacy efforts to facilitate greater digital ownership/control (digital sovereignty) and the widespread use of open solutions, where he is a proponent in the potential of Linux & open source technologies to strengthen the nation's independence with more affordable, open and reliable computing solutions for individuals, educators and academic institutions; businesses; the public sector and, non-profits in Canadian organizations.
His goal for Canada’s digital ecosystem is to further the growth of a flourishing, inclusive and, highly collaborative open source community to encourage learning, contribute to innovative outcomes, and enhance Canada’s global presence. It is Andre’s conviction that, by building meaningful partnerships with Canadian stakeholder groups, including developing educational content, promoting public programs, supporting the delivery of national-level conferences, and expanding national media awareness of its efforts, the Linux Association of Canada will successfully come to represent the singular national voice and platform for both Linux & open source-related technologies and further secure Canada's sustained digital future and competitive capacity!
Director
Sam Hall is an experienced technology strategist, cybersecurity professional, and organizational leader with a strong background in IT governance, digital transformation, and community-focused technology initiatives. Throughout his career, he has worked with Indigenous governments, non-profit organizations, and community enterprises to develop secure, scalable technology solutions that strengthen organizations and improve access to digital services.
With extensive experience leading technology projects, advising executive leadership, and guiding organizational change, Sam combines strategic vision with hands-on technical expertise. His work spans cybersecurity, cloud technologies, IT infrastructure, governance, and digital modernization, helping organizations embrace technology while maintaining resilience, security, and long-term sustainability.
Beyond his professional career, Sam has served in a number of volunteer leadership roles focused on strengthening community connectivity and public service, reflecting his commitment to collaboration, inclusion, and community development.
As a Director of the Linux Association of Canada, Sam helps guide the Association's strategic direction while supporting its mission to advance Linux, open source software, digital sovereignty, and technology education across Canada. His expertise in governance, cybersecurity, and organizational leadership provides valuable insight as the Association continues to expand its national programs, partnerships, and community initiatives.
Director
Thomas Boudewins serves on the Board of Directors of the Linux Association of Canada, where he leads the planning and coordination of the Association's conferences, workshops, community events, and public engagement initiatives. Based in Germany, Thomas also serves as an important bridge for the Association's international relationships, helping strengthen connections with the global Linux and open source community while fostering opportunities for collaboration between Canada and international partners.
An experienced event organizer and project coordinator, Thomas has organized and co-organized several international technology conferences, including two major congresses in Hamburg and one in London. Those events were not open source or Linux related but here counts the experience of organizing big events with all the logistics. His expertise in event planning, logistics, and community engagement helps ensure that the Association delivers professional, inclusive, and impactful experiences for members, partners, and the broader public.
Having made the complete transition from proprietary operating systems to Linux and open source software, Thomas has become a strong advocate for digital independence, open collaboration, and community-driven innovation. His own journey reflects the growing number of professionals who are discovering the practical and long-term benefits of open technologies.
Thomas believes that technology should be accessible to everyone. Through his work with the Linux Association of Canada, he is committed to creating welcoming environments where people of all backgrounds and experience levels can learn, collaborate, and contribute. His international perspective, organizational leadership, and passion for community building support the Association's mission to advance Linux, digital sovereignty, and open source technologies across Canada and beyond.
Treasurer
Gord Tremblay serves on the Board of Directors of the Linux Association of Canada as Treasurer, helping to ensure the organization's financial stewardship and long-term sustainability.
With an extensive background in the finance sector, Gord leads and oversees a finance department and brings years of experience in financial management, strategic planning, and organizational accountability. He holds a Master's degree in Accounting, providing the Association with strong financial expertise and sound governance.
As Treasurer, Gord oversees the Association's financial management, supporting responsible governance, transparency, and accountability while helping to build a strong foundation for future growth. His role is instrumental in ensuring that the Association's resources are managed effectively and responsibly in support of its national mission.
Working alongside the Board of Directors, Gord contributes to the continued growth of the Linux Association of Canada as it expands its educational programs, community initiatives, strategic partnerships, and advocacy for Linux and open source technologies across Canada. His commitment to strong financial leadership helps ensure that the Association can continue investing in initiatives that benefit the Canadian open source community for years to come.
