A New Chapter Begins: The Linux Association of Canada Is Now Incorporated

Today marks a significant milestone in our journey.

We are proud to announce that the Linux Association of Canada has officially received its incorporation, establishing the organization as a recognized legal entity dedicated to advancing Linux, open-source software, digital literacy, and technology accessibility across Canada.

What began as a vision to build a stronger, more connected Linux community has now taken its first formal step toward becoming a lasting national organization.

Why This Matters

Linux and open-source technologies power much of the world's infrastructure, from servers and cloud platforms to scientific research, education, and emerging technologies. Yet many Canadians remain unaware of the opportunities these technologies provide.

The Linux Association of Canada was created to help bridge that gap by:

  • Promoting Linux and open-source software throughout Canada
  • Supporting education and digital literacy initiatives
  • Encouraging collaboration among users, developers, schools, businesses, and community organizations
  • Advocating for open standards and accessible technology
  • Reducing electronic waste through computer refurbishment and reuse programs
  • Providing refurbished computers to individuals, students, schools, and organizations in need

Incorporation gives us the foundation to expand these efforts and build sustainable programs that can serve Canadians for years to come.

Building a Community for Everyone

The Linux community has always been built on collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the belief that technology should empower people rather than limit them.

The Linux Association of Canada embraces those same principles.

Whether you are a seasoned system administrator, software developer, student, educator, business owner, hobbyist, or someone discovering Linux for the first time, there is a place for you in our community.

We believe that open-source technology succeeds when people work together, share ideas, and help one another learn.

Looking Ahead

With incorporation complete, our focus now turns toward building programs and services that deliver real value to Canadians.

Some of our upcoming initiatives include:

  • Establishing membership programs
  • Developing educational resources and training opportunities
  • Building partnerships with schools, businesses, and community organizations
  • Launching hardware donation and refurbishment programs
  • Supporting Linux user groups and community events across Canada
  • Creating opportunities for volunteers to contribute and develop new skills

This is only the beginning.
