Mattermost is an open-source, self-hostable online chat service with file sharing, search, and integrations. Designed as an alternative to Slack, it was founded by a Canadian-led team and is widely used by enterprises and governments for secure communications.

The Digital Research Alliance of Canada (formerly Compute Canada) manages national HPC clusters running customized Slurm workload manager configurations and contributes open-source tooling for scientific computing. Their open-source stack powers university research across the country.

Canadian research networks including CANARIE and provincial NREN members such as ORION and BCNET are major contributors to open-source network authentication and AAI infrastructure. Their contributions to FreeRADIUS and eduroam infrastructure enable secure network access for millions of students and researchers.

CANARIE manages the Canadian Access Federation (CAF), which provides open-source Shibboleth identity federation infrastructure enabling single sign-on for over 300 Canadian universities, colleges, and research institutions. Their open tools and configuration guides are publicly available.

OpenMRS is an open-source medical record system used in developing countries. The University of Toronto and affiliated Canadian researchers are among the primary contributors to its core platform and modules, helping deliver healthcare technology globally.

The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) publishes numerous open-source tools and datasets for materials science, climate modelling, construction standards, and aerospace research. Their open-data and open-software initiatives are publicly available via the Government of Canada's open resource portal.

Axiom is a free, open-source computer algebra system with a long history. Canadian mathematicians supported through NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council) have contributed significantly to its formal mathematics libraries and documentation.

Developed by the National Research Council of Canada, the NRC Word-Emotion Association Lexicon (EmoLex) is a widely-cited open linguistic resource mapping words to emotions and sentiments. It is freely available for research and has been used in thousands of NLP studies worldwide.

Open Data is structured data (data with a pattern that makes it easy to search and use) that is machine-readable, freely shared, used and built on without restrictions.

Aries Verifiable Credentials Registry (VCR), part of the Hyperledger Aries family of Digital Trust technologies, provides a searchable public directory based on Verifiable Credentials (VCs). It was historically known as both OrgBook (which is actually a deployment of Aries VCR) and Indy Catalyst. Aries VCR is actively developed by the British Columbia Government’s Digital Trust Team in Canada, and the most well-known live example is OrgBook BC. In an instance of Aries VCR, credentials can be issued from a variety of authorities about subjects in the instance. A core set of credentials are issued by an authority responsible for “creating” the subject. Other credentials can then be issued against the subject of these core credentials. All credentials are stored in a secure digital wallet and accessed via its website or the public API. This means an instance of Aries VCR can be an authoritative public registry of any referenceable information.

Jupyter Book is an open-source tool for building publication-quality books and documents from computational material. Jupyter Book allows users to write their content in Markdown files or Jupyter notebooks, include computational elements (e.g., code cells) in either type, include rich syntax such as citations, cross-references, and numbered equations, and using a simple command, run the embedded code cells, cache the outputs and convert this content into: a web-based interactive book and a publication-quality PDF.

The Littlest JupyterHub (TLJH) distribution helps you provide Jupyter Notebooks to 1-100 users on a single server. The primary audience are people who do not consider themselves 'system administrators' but would like to provide hosted Jupyter Notebooks for their students or users. All users are provided with the same environment, and administrators can easily install libraries into this environment without any specialized knowledge.

NR Broker is a customizable software deployment business intelligence tool. It automates access to secrets stored in HashiCorp Vault by software (applications, GitHub Actions, etc.), audits activities (builds, installations, provisioning secrets, etc.) and enables access automation. Users can search, browse objects, view a graph representation and review activities using a web application. Developers integrate NR Broker into workflows by sending their intentions, requesting access and recording activity using http requests. As such, NR broker works on private on-premise clouds, AWS, OpenShift Clouds and more.
