Ce projet a été conçu pour s'intégrer à la plateforme La Zone de Statistique Canada. Dans The Zone, les utilisateurs peuvent créer des espaces de travail individuels avec Kubeflow Notebooks. Pour conserver leur travail, les utilisateurs peuvent attacher des volumes à leurs blocs-notes. Ces volumes ne sont pas supprimés automatiquement lorsqu'un bloc-notes est supprimé. Les utilisateurs sont libres de les déplacer ou de les réutiliser. En conséquence, au fil du temps, les utilisateurs ont tendance à accumuler plusieurs volumes inutilisés. Ces volumes se trouvent dans le nuage et entraînent des coûts inutiles. Le but de ce projet est de concevoir un système automatique qui détecte ces volumes inutilisés et les supprime en toute sécurité, réduisant ainsi les dépenses inutiles. Bien que principalement conçu pour Statistique Canada, ce projet valorise fortement les pratiques open source. La base de code est accessible au public et l'ensemble du processus de développement est documenté sur la page des problèmes. Le nettoyeur de volume a été conçu pour avoir le moins de couplage possible afin de pouvoir s'intégrer facilement à des projets à l'extérieur de Statistique Canada. Utiliser l'open source et être open source était une philosophie de développement importante.
